Sci-Fi Movie Hangover

My son really loved watching Forbidden Planet, as I mentioned yesterday. One of his favorite parts of the DVD was the "bonus" track of old Sci-Fi trailers. He was watching them this morning with his younger sisters (5 and 3) as part of his school vacation TV when I came downstairs at 6:30 this morning. His favorite trailer?

...and for your viewing enjoyment:

I guess I gotta' get "Them" next...

Other trailers he liked...

...and just because I felt like it, if anyone remembers Channel 56 Boston (or Channel 48 in Philly) in the 1970's...

In case you or the young'un are interested I think the SciFi (I refuse to call it SyFy) channel has a ton of old movies, serials and TV shows you can watch on-line. I noticed them while watching BSG and meant to take a look but never got around to it.

I've seen Them! but never the trailer. That was over-the-top cool as hell.

Don't forget to treat your kids to Santa Claus Conquers the Martians at Christmas time! It will warm their little hearts. ;-)

Regarding THEM...one of my all time favorites, I even have it copied onto DVD.

B.O.B. - Thanks for the tip...and NEVER call it "SyFy". If you do, then the terrorists win.

Randal - it is one of the most kick-assest Sci Fi movies of all time. In a way I love the old ones more than the new ones. While the oldies are not all brilliant, I think the state of special effects today as well as CGI has made too many of today's offerings mediocre for the sake of cool effects.

Nunly - Holy crap!!! I am absolutely subjecting my kids to that come December!!!

Oh. My. God.
Creature Double Feature on channel 56.
I remember watching those on Saturday afternoons. Nothing else was on but sports and my young mind was fascinated and terrified by the creepies I found on LVI. Oh man. That's where I saw the original Godzilla, Them, The Blob, I was a Teenaged Wherewolf (Michael Landon at his finest!) and so many others. Most were in black and white, I thought. But that may have been the teeny television set I was watching on... oh, man. What great memories! Thanks!

Oh, and as for the SciFi/SyFy debate, a friend of mine who writes in the genre assures me that it is Science Fiction. In fact, he gets very offended when people use the abbreviated version. He's won the Hugo and the Nebula, so I'll let him call it what he wants.

BB - The Godzilla movies were my favorite. Specifically Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster.

Dawn - There was also a 10 pm (or was it 10:30?) Creature Feature on Saturday nights. I remember my babysitter used to let me stay up and watch it sometimes. Your friend sounds like an accomplished Sci-Fi author ;-) Don't tell him I wrote it that way...

Memories!

Loved "THEM!" I believe that this movie features the famous "Wilhelm Scream" a grand total of 4 times.
