In A Word

That is the new theme for March on the NaBloPoMo site. I'm not going to bother explaining it. Because if you write these things I'm betting you can figure it out.

With the time I currently have in each day, it's a perfect theme. Since I'm working long shift hours without access to blogger, I can just come home before midnight and write a single word that describes my day. Maybe a sentence or two after it. And I'm done. If I have more time, I can expound. It's perfect. So I'm going to make a go of it.

Today's word is.....

UNDER-UTILIZED

It's pretty much what I felt until today, when my 12-hour shift team (of which I was the deputy team leader) got a new team leader.  One who wasn't so anal-retentive-up-on-the-governor-get-ahead-of-tasking-and-invent-shit-to-do-and-make-me-some-slides-about-it-while-you're-at-it about everything.

The new guy let me actually be the deputy.  Make decisions.  Direct action. Make and answer requests for information.

So I no longer feel under-utilized.

It has been quite the learning experience, both in the military and civilian world, to see how many people actually want to control anything and everyone to the smallest detail.

I'm glad you no longer feel under-utilized. Isn't it amazing what a difference a change in leadership can make?

"In a word." That was what I had in mind when I recently started a five-year diary (no more than a few sentences per day). Much to my surprise, on most days even one word is too many, unless that word is "same."

BB - Tell me about it. The biggest thing was that the guy I was working for isn't a bad guy. He's just pretty junior among his rank. So he's really trying to charge hard. And he let me know how much he appreciated my hard work. So in a way that made it tougher to really be ticked off at him. The new guy was more senior and said, "I know you can handle it, so just do it."

Julie - Yes, it absolutely is. It was affecting me, as well. I could immediately lighten up and give more latitude to my subordinates and they likewise appreciated it.

Randal - then stop making brownies.
